Implementing, operating and maintaining things all cost resources, including time, money and effort of people. Money helps moving things and a way of getting money is making profit. Running a business can deliver profit, so facilitating, implementing and assisting businesses is important for the Ministry and in general for Asgardia.

Combining the as a Service methodology and a modular and agile approach mentioned in the Vision has proven to be a successful and profitable way of working in Earth-based commercial companies, especially when sufficient attention is given to sustainability, robustness, security and professionality. The same not only also holds in the context of Asgardia, but such an approach is even required in our context. The reason for this is that Asgardia will not be able to build and realize everything that it needs by itself, so we have to collaborate with organizations, companies and other bodies, both internally within Asgardia and across our borders.

A modular, agile and as a Service approach makes it possible for many organizations, companies and other bodies, to implement and sell parts of solutions, and others to deliver integration services, and all to sell the results. Effectively all those bodies will be able to make profits, especially when they collaborate. Moreover, competition will likely increase quality and/or lower prices. In such an ecosystem, there will not only be producers and consumers, but also prosumers, and the resulting services and products will not only be dedicated for the space context, but will also have terrestrial applicability.

The Ministry of Manufacturing should provide a foundation for such an approach, supporting those organizations, businesses and other bodies. At the same time it will also be able to ensure Asgardia’s partial control over the activities, for example by enforcing standards. Moreover, it will deliver income for Asgardia via taxes or fees and by supplying generic underlying services, which could for example be comparable to the SWIFT system in the terrestrial international banking environment.

It is clear that many services are needed and it is also clear that Asgardia can deliver both generic services and services under the hood, as the foundations under the majority of the services and applications.
